There have been attempts to discuss amendments to the Directive over matters such as the opt-out from the 48 hour week but these have not gone through. It is expected that before June 2011, the social partners will get the go ahead for dialogue to begin. We will have to wait and see if the issues will be resolved and the Directive amended.
