Employment Tribunal Fees

Employees on low income shall be exempt from paying fees for lodging an employment tribunal claim. It seems that the Tribunal fees will eventually be introduced in December 2013. In November 2011 a full consultation should be launched on this matter.

 
New Minimum Wage Rates

The current Minimum Wage rates (from 1 October 2011) are:

£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship
 
Using Facebook whilst at Work

In Whitham v Club 24 Ltd t/a Ventura (ET/1810462/10) the Empoyment Tribunal decided that an employee was unfairly dismissed for making derogatory Facebook comments. However in a previous case Preece v JD Wetherspoons plc (ET/2104806/10) (different facts), an employee was fairly dismissed for making derogatory comments about customers on Facebook whilst at work.
